WELCOME TO STIRLING

Stirling is a Scottish city located in the central belt, at the Heart of Scotland.

– Sruighlea [Sreee-lie] – Scots Gaelic
– Strive-Ling – Old English

The city is currently populated by 47,000 residents with a larger Stirlingshire area population of 44,000. Stirling was granted City status in 2002 as part of The Queen’s Golden Jubilee and the old market town has an abundance of History and Culture to share as part of its turbulent past.

At the top of the old town sits Stirling Castle on a dormant volcanic rock. The National Wallace Monument sits on The Abbey Craig to the northeast of the Castle and both look over the 1297 site of the Battle of Stirling Bridge where William Wallace and Andrew du Moray defeated the English force led by John de Warenne, 6th Earl of Surrey. The Battle of Bannockburn site is to the south of the Castle wherein 1314 Robert the Bruce, King of Scots overcame the army of King Edward II of England.

The River Forth meanders its way through the City with the port having been one of the most important in Scotland in medieval time and due to the town’s strategic location in Scotland, is still known as the Gateway to the Highlands.
