William Norman McLaren (11th April 1914 – 27th January 1987) was a Scottish animator, director and producer known for his work for the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). He was born in Stirling, Scotland. McLaren utilised hand-drawn animation, drawn-on-film animation, visual music, abstract film, pixilation and graphical sound in his works. He won an Academy Award in 1952 for Best Documentary Short Subject for Neighbours.
McLaren was also an artist and printmaker along with having an interest in dance – which he explored through his animation and film work.
