Recyke-a-Bike is a recycling social enterprise located in Stirling. The company, part of Fallin Community Enterprises, has been operational since 2005. Recyke-a-Bike aim to relieve poverty in the community as well as improve in health, education and the environment through cycling.
The company and grown over the years and now offers training services, outreach work, bike recycling and has a bike shop.
Recyke-a-Bike aims are to help people, the local community and the environment.
The social enterprise aim to achieve this by:
- Supporting people into employment, education, training and volunteering.
- Helping more people to choose cycling for low carbon transport, better health and well-being and for fun.
- Stopping bikes ending up in landfill.
Recyke-a-Bike offer wider services and work with many partners across Scotland. They work with the public, commercial and third sector as well as private individuals. These services include:
- Bike mechanic certifications
- Private cycling lessons
- Cycle and driver training
- Events (community/employer/sporting)
- Employability
- Bike share and fleet servicing
In 2009, Recyke-a-Bike partnered up with local staff and inmates at Cornton Vale Prison to set up an innovative project that saw the prison set up a workshop where staff and inmates would repair and refurbish secondhand bikes. The bikes would then be available to the general public to buy.
More recently, during the Covid-19 Pandemic, Recyke-a-Bike teamed up with Cycling Scotland, Forth Environment Link and Nextbike UK to provide the Stirling community with 200 free bikes around 25 locations in the city followin £30,000 funding from Transport Scotland.
